Where You And Your Brand Are Today

Where You And Your Brand Are Today

I’m not ashamed to admit that I am a dreamer; that I like to fantasize about the possibilities and the “what ifs.” I think dreaming is a huge part of the creative process for me. I am always looking to explore and try new things; discovery is truly like breathing for me.

I often encourage others to dream too. In fact, I tell them to dream big, that the sky is NOT ever a limit. And I still believe all of these things to be true. But life also reminds me to be extremely cognizant of where I am at this very moment. It is very easy to get caught up in what we think is going to happen but forget about what’s really going on.

Hello March.

It’s critical to your success in 2015 to acknowledge and understand where you are right now. Why?

Well, the first step in capturing any dream is embracing reality. You can’t shoot for the stars until you’re feet are planted firmly on the ground first. But Yes. Reality is a bitch sometimes. keep_it_real

I don’t like admitting that I’m about 10, ok 15, lbs heavier than I should be right now. Or that my closet is a mess and unorganized at this very moment, or that I should have way more money saved or even that I fall in love too easily. These are aspects about myself that I’d rather you not know, but I’ve realized that in order for me to reach new heights, I must deal with where I am at this very moment.

I’m not alone in wanting more out of life. We all strive to become better versions of ourselves. I really believe that we are all doing the best we can with what we got. But the first step in moving forward is understanding . And most importantly, what improvements need to be made.

It does no good to plan for the future if you don’t have a clear grip on today’s needs and challenges.

It’s time to start getting real. Right now. Here are a few suggestions on how to get started:

TIP #1: Take an Assessment

My mom used to always tell me that when you get sick, that’s the body’s way of telling you something’s not right and you need to fix it. I think we get those same sorts of cues in all areas of our lives.
How are your finances? If you were laid off today or you didn’t get a new client for three months, would you be ok?
Are you in a career that provides ample room for growth and professional development?
When was the last time you updated your look? Does your current relationship fulfill you? Does he or she make you feel important and special?

Do you have a likeable brand? Do people like working with you? Are they open to your ideas?

It’s important to be honest with yourself. Or ask someone in your circle to give your their thoughts. One of the awesome things about life is that every day we are afforded another opportunity to make the changes needed to live the lives we want. But you gotta keep it real.

TIP #2: Understand the Power of a Profersonal Brand

Social media was created to help us be, well social, but it’s important to remember that it is still a public communication tool; that it’s not always an accurate depiction of reality. I think many people make the mistake of thinking only their current connections will ever see what they post or who they engage with and that is just simply not true. We are still caught up in trying to balance a personal and a professional life when the name of the game is creating one ultimate profersonal online brand; an identity that definitely feels authentic and like “you” but also respects the professional boundaries that exist in business. Social media is a powerful resource in our lives, but that power can work for us and against us too if we’re not careful.

TIP #3: Make a Plan to Build the Ultimate Brand

Connecting with the true essence and core of your personal brand identity will unlock the key to discovering your profersonal one. There is no perfect job that exists out there. Even Beyonce gets tired of being Beyonce from time to time. But it is indeed possible to simultaneously love what you do and make an impact. bey.flawlessOver the last eight years as CEO of Brandpointe, I’ve made a ton of mistakes but learned a lot along the way too. I have a strong affinity for my fellow entrepreneurs and wanted a way to share all of the business and branding experiences I’ve had with the hopes that they may help someone else with their their career or business. I started writing my first book this time last year and I’m excited to say it’s finally done!

Pretty Girls Have Options: The Ultimate Guide to Building a Hot Brand provides a comprehensive roadmap for brand planning; it’s filled with tips and real world exercises designed to start thinking about where your brand is right now, but most importantly, how to move it forward. And contrary to the book’s title, the book isn’t actually about looks.

When I was younger, I would often hear this phrase “pretty girls have options.” As a woman who has worked hard to get everything in my life, that expression was always super annoying to me. The fact that a person could receive certain things based solely on their outer appearance was absurd. There was a time when yes, what you looked like, what you had or who you knew was all that mattered. It’s honestly what used to define people and brands, personally and professionally. Whether I agreed with it or not, it was our reality. All flash, no substance. It was extremely challenging to connect back then too because nothing was going on beneath the surface.

But I’m here to tell you things have changed. And the rules are different now. Substance is king. Influence is now defined by your ability to connect, be creative and influence others. This new world makes it possible to have a hot brand based on the internal rather than the external. It’s a pretty exciting time.

As you examine your brand this month, I’d like to issue you a challenge if you’re up for it. finalprettygirlcover

I ‘d like to motivate you to be greater, to increase the value you place on yourself and your brand. I don’t want you to waste time building an average brand.

My mission is simple. I want to help you kick ass; to construct the baddest brand alive. A brand that allows you to achieve your goals, be bold, and set the gold standard when it comes to your personal and professional life.
